A stock news API for developers
MarketNewsAPI delivers real-time US stock news, full-text press releases, and legal notices as JSON. Call it over REST, stream it over WebSocket, or hand it to an agent over MCP. Pro is $15 a month.
What is MarketNewsAPI?
MarketNewsAPI is a stock news API. It returns publisher headlines, wire releases, and shareholder legal notices with tickers, a short AI summary, and two timestamps. Paid plans, including the 7-day trial, search the full archive. The free plan is the last year, delayed 15 minutes.
Founder
Adrian Hale, Founder & CEO
My background is finance and engineering, and I trade my own account. The headlines I wanted while a position was open lived in products built for a fund. Bloomberg and Refinitiv set the standard on a terminal. Benzinga, Finnhub, Alpha Vantage, Marketaux, and StockNewsAPI set the standard on a developer key. That quality was the bar. The price, and the split between a search API, a live stream, and a tool an agent can call, kept small traders on the outside.
I built MarketNewsAPI to fill that gap. Small-time traders get one feed of US stock news, full-text press releases, and legal notices, with tickers and a short summary already attached. REST covers search and backfill. A WebSocket delivers each article as it is ingested. MCP gives Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor the same articles as tools. Pro is $15 a month, a price a person trading their own account can keep.

Why does this stock news API cost $15 a month?
A news API that is good enough to build on is usually priced for a fund. Cheaper feeds make you poll, wait, or count every call. Software got cheaper to run. Those invoices did not. That gap keeps independent traders, investors, and developers off the same headlines a desk already has.
Pro is $15 a month, or $162 a year ($13.50 a month), for real-time REST, WebSocket, and MCP, with no daily request cap. A published burst limit of 20 requests per second keeps the service fast. Signup starts a 7-day trial of that same access. A card is required. If you do not subscribe, the account stays on Free: 100 requests a day and a 15-minute delay.
Mission
Give every developer the stock headlines, press releases, and legal notices that used to require a trading desk.
- US stock news, full-text press releases, and legal notices in one article schema.
- REST, WebSocket, and MCP on one Pro plan. No separate streaming product.
- Tickers, summaries, and source links attached before the article reaches you.
Three ways to read the same stock news
REST API
Search and backfill stock news with filters for ticker, type, source, and date. Any language that can send HTTPS works.
REST referenceWebSocket
One connection stays open and new articles arrive as they are ingested. Pro includes 3 connections and up to 200 channels.
WebSocket referenceMCP server
Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other clients call the same articles as tools, with a source URL on every result.
MCP referenceHow the stock news API is built
Collect
Workers poll news sources and read press releases from GlobeNewswire, Business Wire, PR Newswire, ACCESS Newswire, and Newsfile.
Classify
Each story is de-duplicated, tagged with tickers, and split into stock news, press release, or legal. A model writes a short summary and extracts entities.
Deliver
The article is indexed for REST and pushed to WebSocket subscribers. published_at and ingested_at stay on the record so latency is measurable.
Publisher articles stay linked
Stock news and legal notices include the headline, a snippet, a summary, and a link back to the original page. Full text is included on press releases, because those releases are written to be distributed.
The feed is not advice
MarketNewsAPI does not recommend trades, rank stocks, or return quotes. A price shown next to a headline on this website is delayed context and is not part of the API license.
