Why this exists

Fast enough to trade on. Cheap enough to start.

Trading APIs got expensive while the software behind them got cheaper, and that gap keeps a lot of retail traders and investors off the same feeds. Pro is real time and unlimited, and the article is the same whether you call REST, open a socket, or hand it to an agent.

Push, don't poll

A WebSocket stream sends each article the moment it's ingested and enriched. Subscribe by ticker, article type, keyword or source, or take the whole stock-news firehose.

AI summaries

A neutral 1–3 sentence summary of every story, so you can show context or feed an LLM without scraping the page.

Entities and symbols

Tickers, companies, people and products are extracted and normalized, so you can match articles to your universe.

Full-text press releases

Press releases come straight from GlobeNewswire, Business Wire, PR Newswire, ACCESS Newswire and Newsfile, with the complete text included.

Filters that compose

Stocks split into stock news, press releases and legal, the same three types Vantafin uses. Combine those with tickers, sources, date ranges, and full-text search.

Full archive

Paid plans search the full archive of stock news, which is useful for backtests, research and training datasets.

$15, and that's the point

Pro is $15 a month, or $13.50 a month billed annually, for unlimited real-time REST, WebSocket, and MCP. No credits and no overage fees. The 7-day trial requires a card.

Hand it to an agent

The MCP server gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other agents the same articles, with a link to each source.

Live desk

The desk is already running.

Stock news, press releases, and legal notices land with the ticker, the source, and the time already on the row.

REST + WebSocket

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is MarketNewsAPI?
MarketNewsAPI is a stock news API for developers who need US headlines as JSON. It returns publisher stock news, full-text press releases, and legal notices over REST, and it pushes new articles over WebSocket. Every article includes tickers, a short AI summary, and named entities, plus published and ingested timestamps so you can measure latency. Pro is $15 a month. A 7-day trial includes the live feed.
Is there a free market news API?
Yes. Signup starts a 7-day Pro trial, and a card is required. The trial includes real-time REST, WebSocket, and MCP, with 2,000 REST requests per UTC day. WebSocket messages are not counted. Paid Pro removes the daily cap. If you do not subscribe when it ends, the account moves to Free: 100 REST requests per UTC day, headlines delayed 15 minutes, and the last year of stock news. One trial per email. The API key stays on the account.
Is the paid stock news API unlimited?
Yes. Paid Pro has no daily or monthly request cap and no overage fees. A burst limit of 20 requests per second per account keeps the service fast, and a burst past that returns HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header. Pro also includes 3 concurrent WebSocket connections and the MCP server. The 7-day trial is the same feed with 2,000 REST requests a day. Pro is $15 a month, or $162 a year.
What is the difference between the REST API and the WebSocket?
REST is request and response: you ask for articles that match filters and get a page of JSON, which suits search, history, and backfills. The WebSocket is push: one connection stays open and new articles arrive as they are ingested, filtered to the channels you subscribe to. Pro at $15 a month includes both, plus the MCP server for AI apps. The 7-day trial includes them too.
How are stock articles divided?
Stock articles use three types, the same way Vantafin does. Stock news is publisher reporting, requested as category=stocks and type=news. Press releases are wire announcements with full text, requested as type=press_release. Legal notices are shareholder class-action and investor alerts, requested as type=legal, so they do not bury the other two. Filter by type when you only want one of them.
How fast is the stock news API?
Pro, including the 7-day trial, receives articles as soon as they are ingested. Sources are polled every second, including nights and weekends, and press releases are read directly from the wire services. The Free plan and the signed-out news desk are delayed by 15 minutes. There is no separate real-time plan.
Which programming languages does the API support?
Any language that can send HTTPS requests or open a WebSocket works. The docs include copy-paste examples for cURL, Python, JavaScript and Node.js, Go, PHP, Ruby, C#, and Java. An OpenAPI 3.1 spec is published so code generators can build a client. Authentication is an API key in the Authorization Bearer header. No SDK install is required.
Can I use MarketNewsAPI with ChatGPT, Claude, or my own AI agent?
Yes. Pro includes a remote MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other clients, and the 7-day trial includes it too. Apps that support OAuth send you to sign in and approve a key. You can also point an agent at the OpenAPI spec or llms.txt and call /v1/news as a tool. Free keys receive HTTP 403 from the MCP endpoint.
How far back does the stock news API go?
Paid plans, including the 7-day trial, search the full archive of stock news and press releases. The Free plan returns the last year. Each article has published_at, the time on the story. There is no separate history add-on. Pro is $15 a month, or $162 a year.
Is MarketNewsAPI a stock price API?
No. MarketNewsAPI is a news API. It returns headlines, press releases, and legal notices with tickers, timestamps, a short summary, and a link to the source. It does not sell quotes, bars, fundamentals, or buy and sell signals. A price shown next to a headline on this website is delayed context and is not part of the API license.

Real-time stock news for $15 a month.

Start a 7-day Pro trial. A card is required. REST, WebSocket, and MCP are included, with 2,000 REST requests a day. Paid Pro removes the daily cap. If you don't subscribe, the account stays on Free.
