News history for research and backtests
A backtest of “news moved the stock” needs a timestamp you can trust, a ticker that was actually the subject, and a label that does not change every time you re-scrape. MarketNewsAPI stores those fields on each article.
How does a stock news API help researchers and systematic investors?
Paid plans search the full archive of US stock news, press releases, and legal notices, with published time, ingest time, tickers, and type on every row.
When this stock news workflow fits
- You need point-in-time headlines, not today's rewritten page.
- You want press releases separated from legal notices before you label events.
- You will join news to your own prices. This API does not return prices.

NVDA press releases for a year
The same article shape on every guide: ticker, type, timestamps, summary, and a link. Press releases include the full text.
curl "https://api.marketnewsapi.com/v1/news?tickers=NVDA&type=press_release&from=2025-10-15&to=2026-10-14&limit=100" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $MARKETNEWSAPI_KEY"How do you request stock news for this workflow?
Page the archive
Use from, to, and cursor on GET /v1/news. Pagination is cursor-based so a long pull does not skip or repeat rows.
Keep event types apart
Earnings releases and other company statements are type=press_release. Law-firm alerts are type=legal. Mixing them into one feature usually adds noise.
Use both clocks
published_at is the publisher time. ingested_at is when we stored it. The gap is the latency of that row, which matters if your backtest assumes instant news.
