What is an MCP server?

An MCP server lets an AI app call outside tools through the Model Context Protocol. The MarketNewsAPI server exposes stock news search, article lookup, and trending tickers, so Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or VS Code can answer with current headlines and a source URL. You do not paste articles into the chat. The app calls the tool and cites what comes back.

Which plan includes the MCP server?

Pro includes it, at $15 a month or $162 a year ($13.50 a month). Pro also includes the REST API and the WebSocket. The 7-day trial includes MCP, and a card is required. Free keys receive HTTP 403 from the MCP endpoint. There is no separate MCP add-on. One trial per email.

How does MCP authentication work?

Apps that support OAuth, including Claude connectors, ChatGPT, and Claude Code, send you to marketnewsapi.com to sign in and approve access. MarketNewsAPI creates a dedicated API key named after the app, and you can revoke that key in the dashboard. Other apps send an existing API key in the Authorization Bearer header. The key must be on Pro or on the trial.

Do MCP tool calls count against a limit?

Pro has no daily or monthly request cap, so tool calls are not metered against a quota. The account still has a burst limit of 20 requests per second, shared with REST. WebSocket messages are separate. Tool calls show up in the usage dashboard under the key the app is using. Free keys cannot call MCP.

Is MCP news delayed?

No. On Pro, including the 7-day trial, MCP tools return articles as soon as they are ingested, and paid plans can search the full archive. Free is delayed 15 minutes and limited to the last year, but Free cannot call MCP at all. Each article includes published_at and ingested_at if you want to check freshness.

Which AI apps can connect to the MCP server?

Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, and other clients that speak MCP over Streamable HTTP. Claude and ChatGPT use OAuth and create a key named after the app. Cursor and VS Code send an existing API key as Authorization Bearer. The server URL is on this page. You do not run a local news process.

What can the MCP tools return?

Stock news search, one article, and trending tickers. Each article includes the title, a short summary, tickers, the source, and a URL. The tools do not return quotes or a reason a price moved. Ask the model to cite the URL and to say when the articles do not explain the move.
