Connect MarketNewsAPI to ChatGPT

ChatGPT connects through a custom connector with OAuth sign-in.

The MCP server is part of Pro, including the 7-day trial. Server URL: https://mcp.marketnewsapi.com/mcp

Set it up

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Back in Apps & Connectors, choose Create.
  3. Name it MarketNewsAPI, set the MCP server URL to https://mcp.marketnewsapi.com/mcp and authentication to OAuth.
  4. Click Create, sign in to MarketNewsAPI and click Allow.
  5. In a new chat, add MarketNewsAPI from the + menu and ask away.
Custom connectors depend on your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings. Menu names change often; look for “Connectors” or “Apps”.

Try it

Ask something that needs current news, for example:

  • “What's the latest news on NVDA and AAPL?”
  • “Find press releases about semiconductor stocks from last week.”
  • “Read the full Microsoft buyback press release and list the key numbers.”
  • “Give me a briefing on what moved markets overnight.”

Or start from one of the built-in prompts, such as morning_briefing.

Troubleshooting

  • 401 / “couldn't connect”: the key is wrong or revoked, or the OAuth sign-in didn't finish. Check your keys in the dashboard and reconnect.
  • 403: the key belongs to a Free account. MCP needs Pro.
  • Tools don't appear: restart the app after editing config files, and make sure the JSON is valid.
