An affordable stock news API, and what the monthly price leaves out
Compare stock news API entry prices, request limits, full-text coverage, and streaming features before choosing a monthly plan.

Finding an affordable stock news API starts with the entry price. It does not end there. A monthly plan can include a limited call quota, a per-minute cap, delayed headlines, no WebSocket, or no press-release body.
MarketNewsAPI Pro costs $15 per month, or $162 per year. That annual price works out to $13.50 per month. Several other providers list higher entry prices. Their quotas and included features differ, so the right comparison depends on the request pattern your application will actually run.
This comparison uses the vendor prices listed on the MarketNewsAPI comparison pages. They were last checked on 7 October 2026. See the full comparison and the pricing page before making a decision.
Entry prices at a glance
The table below puts several listed entry prices beside their published limits. A price on this list belongs to that vendor, not to MarketNewsAPI.
| Provider | Listed entry price | Published limit or note | Full text | WebSocket |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MarketNewsAPI | $15/month or $162/year | No daily REST cap on paid Pro | Press releases only | Yes, 3 concurrent connections |
| StockNewsAPI | $19.99/month Basic | 20,000 calls/month | No | Not listed |
| Marketaux | $29/month Basic | 2,500 requests/day, 20 articles/request | No | Not listed, REST |
| NewsAPI.org | $449/month Business | 250,000 requests/month, plus overage | No | No |
| Finnhub | $49.99/month market data plans | Billed quarterly with a personal-use license | No, press releases premium | Yes, but real-time news requires premium access |
| Benzinga | Not published, sales quoted | Contract based | Premium tiers | Yes, 1 connection per token |
| Alpha Vantage | $49.99/month | 75 requests/minute | No | No |
| Financial Modeling Prep | About $22/month Starter | About 300 calls/minute at Starter | Headlines and article text vary by endpoint | Not the product bought for news streaming |
| Massive | $29/month Stocks Starter | Unlimited calls and 15-minute delayed data | Not a press-release archive | Starts on paid tiers |
| Tiingo | $30/month Power | Raises request caps | News items, not a full-text wire archive | Not published as a news WebSocket |
| EODHD | $19.99/month EOD Historical All-World | Paid tiers list 100,000 calls/day | News content, not a dedicated full-text wire product | Not sold as a news WebSocket |
| Intrinio | $150/month Individual | Startup starts at $333/month | Headline, URL, source, and text | Streaming is part of the broader platform |
MarketNewsAPI is not the cheapest provider listed. Its Pro price is below the published entry prices shown here. StockNewsAPI begins at $19.99 per month, while EODHD also lists a $19.99 monthly entry tier.
That lower number does not settle the comparison. A provider with a higher price may allow more requests. Another may include a feature your application depends on.
Price the request pattern you will run
A stock news dashboard that polls every 10 seconds makes about 259,200 calls in a 30-day month. That calculation comes from 2,592 polling intervals per day when the feed runs without gaps. A poll every minute makes about 43,200 calls in the same period.
Those totals need to be checked against the provider's quota and rate limit. A monthly quota is easy to compare with monthly demand. A per-minute limit requires a different calculation. You also need to account for restarts, retries, multiple users, and background jobs.
MarketNewsAPI paid Pro has no daily REST cap. It also has a shared burst limit of 20 requests per second across REST and MCP tool calls. The Free plan has 100 REST requests per day and delays headlines by 15 minutes. GET /usage and GET /status do not count toward the Free daily cap.
Some alternatives publish larger monthly allowances. StockNewsAPI Basic lists 20,000 calls per month. Marketaux Basic lists 2,500 requests per day. NewsAPI.org Business lists 250,000 monthly requests. Its Business plan also lists an overage charge of $0.0018 per request.
The right unit is the unit your code consumes. It may be API calls, REST requests, articles per request, or calls per minute. Compare the same unit before comparing prices.
Features that a low headline price can hide
Streaming is one clear difference. MarketNewsAPI Pro includes three concurrent WebSocket connections and unlimited WebSocket messages. A fourth connection closes with code 4008. The Free plan cannot open the WebSocket.
The WebSocket endpoint is wss://ws.marketnewsapi.com/v1/stream. A connection can use up to 200 channels. Channels can target a ticker, category, type, keyword, or source. Stream messages do not count as REST calls. This can reduce polling when your application needs a persistent news stream.
Several comparison entries do not list a WebSocket, including StockNewsAPI, Marketaux, NewsAPI.org, Alpha Vantage, Tiingo, and EODHD. Finnhub lists a WebSocket, but real-time news requires premium access. Benzinga lists one WebSocket connection per token.
Full text is another difference. A headline feed and a press-release archive are not the same product. MarketNewsAPI returns the full wire text in the body field for press releases, including short releases. Publisher stories and legal notices have a null body. For those records, the reader follows the article url.
The snippet is a publisher excerpt, not the full article. The API also provides a neutral AI summary, plus entities. A summary can be briefly null on REST and on an immediate WebSocket event. The summaries WebSocket waits until the summary exists.
MCP is also included with Pro and with the 7-day trial. The endpoint is https://mcp.marketnewsapi.com/mcp. Its tools cover latest news, filtered search, one article, market briefs, trending tickers, sources, and tickers. Long press-release bodies are capped at 20,000 characters through MCP.
Try it for 7 days. Signup starts Pro. A card is required. Real-time REST, WebSocket, and MCP, with 1,000 REST requests a day. Paid Pro removes the cap. After that it's $15/month, or Free if you stop.
Coverage, history, and intended use
MarketNewsAPI currently covers US-listed equities and ETFs. It includes publisher news, wire press releases, and legal notices. It does not include cryptocurrency, forex, or macro news. Those categories may arrive later, but they are not available today.
Paid Pro provides the full archive and real-time data with no headline delay. Free provides the last 365 days of history. The archive includes the fields needed to search and filter records. REST filters can combine with AND, while comma-separated values in one filter work as OR.
The $15 Pro plan is for non-commercial use. A product you sell, client work, or redistribution of the feed needs a separate commercial license. There is no public self-serve commercial price. Commercial license questions should go to [email protected].
When showing a third-party article, press release, or legal notice to an end user, keep the publisher source and a working link to the original. Do not present it as reporting produced by MarketNewsAPI. A commercial license also requires attribution with the publisher name, a link to the original, and the required MarketNewsAPI notice.
Try the Pro features before choosing a plan
The 7-day Pro trial requires a card. Nothing is charged during the trial. It includes the live feed, WebSocket, MCP, the full archive, and 1,000 REST requests per day. Unless you cancel, your card is billed for Pro when the trial ends. Canceling during the trial returns the account to Free, and nothing is billed.
Use the trial to measure your own call pattern. Test ticker filters, search, article retrieval, and the WebSocket channels you expect to use. Compare those results with the quotas and features on the StockNewsAPI, Marketaux, NewsAPI.org, Finnhub, and Alpha Vantage comparison pages.
