Give Claude and ChatGPT real-time market news with MCP
Connect Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor to MarketNewsAPI's remote MCP server so the assistant can search live stock news and cite sources.

Most assistants freeze at yesterday's training cutoff. A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server lets them call live tools instead. This guide wires Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor to MarketNewsAPI so a question like “what moved NVDA today?” comes back with cited headlines and summaries.
What you need: a MarketNewsAPI account on Pro ($15/month, or the 7-day trial), and one of Claude (paid, for custom connectors), ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code or Windsurf.
The server URL
https://mcp.marketnewsapi.com/mcpIt speaks Streamable HTTP. You do not run a local process. Claude and ChatGPT sign in with OAuth; Cursor and VS Code send an API key as Authorization: Bearer.
Claude (web, desktop, mobile)
In Claude open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. Name it MarketNewsAPI, paste the URL, then click Connect. Sign in on marketnewsapi.com and click Allow. We create a key named MCP · Claude so you can revoke that app later without rotating everything else.
Cursor

"mcpServers": {
"marketnewsapi": {
"url": "https://mcp.marketnewsapi.com/mcp",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer mna-live-YOUR_KEY" }

}Restart the agent (or hit Refresh in Settings → MCP). You should see tools such as latest_news and market_brief.
What to ask first
- “What's the latest news on NVDA and AAPL?”
- “Give me a briefing on what moved markets overnight.”
- “What are the latest headlines on TSLA, and how do they read?”
Those map to latest_news, market_brief and search_news. The built-in prompts morning_briefing, watchlist_news and ticker_deep_dive give the model a ready-made plan.
Try it for 7 days. Signup starts Pro. A card is required. Real-time REST, WebSocket, and MCP, with no request cap. After that it's $15/month, or Free if you stop.
Always cite
Every tool returns article urls. Ask the model to link them. If it starts guessing a price move the articles don't explain, tell it to say so - the tools are news, not a price feed.
Limits
Pro has no request cap. Burst is 20 calls per second, shared with REST. Free keys get HTTP 403. Full setup for every client lives in the MCP docs.
