MarketNewsAPI vs StockNewsAPI
StockNewsAPI Basic is $19.99/month for 20,000 calls. MarketNewsAPI Pro is $15/month with no daily cap, plus WebSocket and MCP.

StockNewsAPI Basic is $19.99/mo Basic (20,000 calls/month). MarketNewsAPI Pro is $15 a month with no daily request quota, a WebSocket stream, and an MCP server on the same plan. Pick StockNewsAPI if you already depend on its event, ranking, or analyst-rating datasets. Pick MarketNewsAPI if the product you are building is US stock news and you want the headline pushed to you.
What each plan actually includes
A long-running stock news API with ticker and topic filters. Its public entry plan meters calls by the month. Premium is listed at $49.99 for 50,000 calls. MarketNewsAPI meters a burst of 20 requests per second and does not add a monthly call quota on Pro.

Polling a quota vs opening a stream
A bot that asks "what is new on these tickers?" every few seconds spends the monthly quota on empty responses. MarketNewsAPI Pro includes a WebSocket. You subscribe to channels such as ticker:NVDA or type:press_release, and the server sends the article once. Pro includes 3 concurrent connections. The same plan includes the remote MCP server, so Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor can call the feed without a second contract.
StockNewsAPI does not list a WebSocket on the compare page. If your integration is a REST poll inside a quota you already sized, that is a reason to stay. If the quota is the thing you keep raising, the stream is the cheaper fix.
Same job, different extras
Both products are aimed at stock headlines. MarketNewsAPI today is US stocks: publisher stories, full-text press releases, and legal notices (shareholder class-action and investor-alert notices), with a summary and entity tags on every article. Press releases include the wire text. Publisher stories and legal notices include the headline, a short summary, and a link to the source.
StockNewsAPI's strengths, as listed on the compare page, are a long track record, topic and event filters, and trending headlines plus analyst upgrade and downgrade data on Premium. Those rating datasets are not what MarketNewsAPI sells. If the rating feed is the requirement, StockNewsAPI is the one that publishes it.
Which one to start with
- Choose StockNewsAPI when you need its event, ranking, or analyst-rating data, or you already have a working integration.
- Choose MarketNewsAPI when you want real-time push, more than 20,000 calls a month, or US stock news at $15 a month.
- Use Free, or the 7-day Pro trial, to run the same request you would ship. Pro is $15 a month, or $162 a year. The 7-day trial includes the live feed, and a card is required. Free stays at 100 requests a day, delayed 15 minutes, with 30 days of history.
Try it for 7 days. Signup starts Pro. A card is required. Real-time REST, WebSocket, and MCP, with no request cap. After that it's $15/month, or Free if you stop.
What a polling bot costs against a monthly quota
A loop that calls the news endpoint every 10 seconds makes 6 requests a minute, 360 an hour, and 8,640 a day. Across a 30-day month that is about 259,200 calls, and that is one ticker list, one process, no retries. StockNewsAPI Basic is listed at 20,000 calls a month, which covers a little over two days of that loop. Premium is listed at 50,000 calls, still short of a week. Slowing the poll to once a minute is 43,200 calls a month, which fits inside Premium and still misses Basic.
MarketNewsAPI Pro does not sell that loop. One WebSocket connection stays open, and messages are not counted as REST calls. The REST quota you do have is a burst of 20 requests per second, shared by every key on the account. Use it for search and for the gap fill after a reconnect, not for "is there anything new?"
If the bot also needs history, page GET /v1/news with from and cursor once, store the article id, and then leave the socket running. That is one backfill plus a stream, not a poll. The Python shape of the stream is already on the alert bot tutorial.
What to put in the first pull request
- A server-side client. Do not put the key in a browser. Send
Authorization: Beareron REST. - One named key for production and another for the laptop, so a leaked dev key can be revoked on the keys page without stopping the bot.
- A ticker list capped at 50 symbols per REST call. Open a second call, or subscribe to
category:stocksand filter, if the book is wider. - A test that a press release and a publisher story take different display paths. Only the release includes full text.
The trial starts at signup. The field-by-field notes stay on the compare page, and the request shape is in the news endpoint docs.
