How many articles does a stock news API return for one ticker?
One week on MarketNewsAPI: 26,339 stock items from 44 domains, 203 tagged AAPL and 24 tagged JPM. The table and the method are below.

Someone comparing vendors usually asks a volume question before a price question: how many articles does a stock news API return for one ticker, and is that the whole market or one busy name. A page that says "real time" does not answer it. A week of stored rows does.
The counts below are from the MarketNewsAPI article index. The window is published_at from 18:00 UTC on October 31, 2026, up to but not including 18:00 UTC on November 7, 2026. That is seven days. An article is counted once in the feed totals. A ticker count is the number of stock articles whose ticker list includes that symbol, so one story about two companies counts once for each symbol. This is our index, not a census of every story on the public web.
What one week of the feed contains
The index held 31,841 articles in that window.
| Category | Articles | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Stocks | 26,339 | 82.7% |
| Crypto | 4,026 | 12.6% |
| Macro | 1,083 | 3.4% |
| Forex | 393 | 1.2% |
Stocks are the product most people mean by a stock news API, and they are about five of every six rows. Crypto is large enough that leaving category off, which stays on stocks, is a different feed from asking for everything. Forex in this week was 393 articles, about 56 a day. A watchlist of currency pairs will look empty next to a watchlist of mega-cap stocks, and that is the data, not a broken query.
Inside the 26,339 stock rows, type splits publisher news, press releases, and legal notices. The three types add back to the same 26,339.
| Type | Articles | Share of stocks |
|---|---|---|
| News | 15,498 | 58.8% |
| Press release | 7,169 | 27.2% |
| Legal | 3,672 | 13.9% |
More than a quarter of the stock rows are press releases, and about one in seven is a legal notice. A screen that prints every row as "news" will mix a court filing and a wire release into the same list. Pass type=news, type=press_release, or type=legal when the screen should be one of those. Press releases include the wire text. Publisher stories and legal notices are a headline, a summary, and a link to the original.
One ticker is not the firehose
7,398 distinct ticker symbols appear on at least one stock article in the week. The busiest company symbols are still a thin slice of the 26,339 stock rows. Adding the rows in this table double counts any story that names two of these companies.
| Ticker | Articles | Domains | News | Press release | Legal |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AAPL | 203 | 30 | 193 | 10 | 0 |
| GOOGL | 201 | 20 | 138 | 7 | 56 |
| NVDA | 192 | 24 | 189 | 3 | 0 |
| AMZN | 186 | 25 | 164 | 22 | 0 |
| MSFT | 180 | 23 | 150 | 30 | 0 |
| AMD | 160 | 19 | 147 | 13 | 0 |
| TSLA | 112 | 23 | 109 | 3 | 0 |
| KO | 52 | 8 | 34 | 18 | 0 |
| XOM | 32 | 10 | 28 | 4 | 0 |
| JPM | 24 | 10 | 22 | 2 | 0 |
| CAT | 21 | 9 | 14 | 7 | 0 |
Apple at 203 articles is about 29 a day. JPMorgan at 24 is about three a day. Caterpillar at 21 is about three a day as well. A poll designed around NVDA does a lot of empty work for CAT. A poll designed around CAT, with a limit of 50, still covers that symbol's whole week in one page. None of these symbols produced 50 stories in an hour.
GOOG was tagged on 179 stock articles in the same window. Many of those are the same stories as GOOGL, because a story can carry both share classes. Treat the two rows as overlapping, not as 380 separate articles.
The week is also not flat through the day. On Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the window from 14:30 to 21:00 UTC held 7,377 stock articles. That is six and a half hours of the whole stock feed, not one ticker, and it is more than a quarter of the week's stock rows. A screen that wants every headline is a different job from a screen for one symbol. The first job is why the WebSocket exists. The second can poll.
Forty-four domains, not one wire
The 26,339 stock articles came from 44 source domains. These twelve had the most rows. Shares are of the stock total, so the rest of the domains make up what is left.
| Domain | Stock articles | Share |
|---|---|---|
| reuters.com | 3,904 | 14.8% |
| zacks.com | 3,590 | 13.6% |
| globenewswire.com | 3,428 | 13.0% |
| accessnewswire.com | 2,458 | 9.3% |
| seekingalpha.com | 2,429 | 9.2% |
| prnewswire.com | 2,401 | 9.1% |
| businesswire.com | 2,161 | 8.2% |
| fool.com | 1,154 | 4.4% |
| marketbeat.com | 1,066 | 4.0% |
| newsfilecorp.com | 896 | 3.4% |
| 247wallst.com | 739 | 2.8% |
| defenseworld.net | 691 | 2.6% |
Reuters, Zacks, and GlobeNewswire lead this particular week. That order is not a permanent ranking, and a weekend inside the window changes a publisher's share. AAPL still drew on 30 domains, NVDA on 24, and Caterpillar on 9. "Covered" here means the symbol was tagged on at least one row from that domain. It does not mean every domain wrote a feature about the company.

When the top ticker is not a company
The highest raw ticker in the week was ACCS, at 264 rows, ahead of AAPL. The first rows under that symbol were Access Newswire press releases whose headlines were about other subjects, not a company trading as ACCS. A symbol taken off the wire's own name is not a measure of interest in that company, so ACCS is left out of the table above.
If you rank tickers from an API, read the titles before you treat the top of the list as the most discussed stock. A count is only as good as the tag. The company figures in the table are the ones whose titles match the company.
How to size the request
Two numbers get confused. Articles are the rows in the table. Requests are how often your program asks. A watchlist of 100 tickers, refreshed every 10 minutes, is 14,400 requests a day. At Apple's rate you are not downloading 14,400 articles for AAPL. You are downloading 100 small pages, most of them a handful of new rows since the last call.
For one symbol, a limit of 50 is wider than any single day in this table. For the whole stock feed in a session like November 4, 50 rows is a few minutes, not the session. Paginate that query, or subscribe on the WebSocket and stop polling.
curl "https://api.marketnewsapi.com/v1/news?tickers=AAPL&limit=50" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $MARKETNEWSAPI_KEY"Add type=press_release when you want the wire rows and not the publisher stories. The article object and the news endpoint list the fields. Coverage is the publisher list. For when a headline shows up relative to the publisher's clock, rather than how many arrive, see how long after the wire the headline is in the API.
Pro is $15 a month, or $162 a year, for personal and internal use, with no daily request cap. A burst past 20 requests a second returns HTTP 429. A product you sell, work for a client, or a copy of the feed handed to users needs its own license. Write to [email protected]. The 7-day trial is the same real-time feed, a card is required, and the trial is for evaluation.
Run the same ticker query on your own key before you size a job around this week. The window will not repeat. The shape is the useful part: one busy ticker is tens of stories a day, a quieter ticker is a handful, and the unfiltered stock feed in a market session is thousands.
