MarketNewsAPI v1 is the first public release of the stock news API. It ships a REST API for search and article lookup, a WebSocket stream for live headlines, and an MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor. Coverage is US stock news, press releases, and legal notices. Pro searches the full archive, and new articles include an AI summary and entities.

What shipped in MarketNewsAPI v1?

v1 is the version in the path. New fields and endpoints can be added inside v1. A breaking change would ship as v2, and it would be written up here first.

Which REST endpoints are in v1?

Base URL: https://api.marketnewsapi.com/v1. The REST reference has parameters and examples.

  • List news. GET /v1/news filters by ticker, category, type, source, keyword, and date.
  • Get an article. GET /v1/news/{id} returns one article, including press-release body text when the source provides it.
  • Trending. GET /v1/trending returns the tickers with the most coverage right now.
  • Sources. GET /v1/sources lists publishers and recent article counts.
  • Usage and status. GET /v1/usage is your key's usage. GET /v1/status is API health.

How does the WebSocket stream work?

Connect to wss://ws.marketnewsapi.com/v1/stream and subscribe to a channel. The WebSocket guide covers the message format.

What does the MCP server connect to?

The server is https://mcp.marketnewsapi.com/mcp. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, and Windsurf can call it with OAuth or an API key. Client setup is in the MCP docs.

What news does v1 cover?

Coverage matches the three stock types on the coverage page: publisher stock news, press releases, and legal notices. Pro searches the full archive. New articles are enriched with a short AI summary and entities. Older rows in that year are enriched in the background.

Is MarketNewsAPI v1 a public API?
Yes. Create an account, take an API key, and call https://api.marketnewsapi.com/v1. The same key works for REST. Pro, including the 7-day trial, also unlocks WebSocket and MCP. A card is required for the trial. Free is 100 requests a day. Docs and the OpenAPI spec describe every endpoint. No private beta key is required.
How far back does the stock news archive go?
Pro, including the 7-day trial, searches the full archive of stock news and press releases. The free plan returns the last year and delays headlines by 15 minutes. Legal notices are included as their own type. New articles get an AI summary and entities. Older rows are enriched in the background, so a summary can still be empty.

    Articles are on the site, on REST, and on /v1/stream as soon as they are ingested. A new socket, /v1/stream/summaries, sends the same article a few seconds later, after the AI summary is written.
